Service to the Needy

<Introduction>

Rambaba's programmes to spread the Hindu consciousness in the UK included Hindus of all backgrounds and communities.  With the loyal support of devotees of Jignyasu Satsang Mandal, he was able to take the message to the Hindu public.
The Sindhi community was particularly inspired by his message and started to actively support him in his projects. As Rambaba gathered support for his activities in England, he had thoughts of doing service for the Sadhus and the poor in India. This led to thousands of nearly new blankets, shirts, jerseys, trousers, shoes being shipped from England for free distribution to the poor at the food camps in Kumbh Mela and Magh Melas and holy places. It is Rambaba's belief that he was able to carry out these activities with the help of his disciple, Prabhaben Bhagat who is a Trustee of the Charity and continues to serve actively.

He has been extremely successful in these projects. The supervision and distribution of the consignments were overseen by Rambaba himself to avoid any misuse.

Distribution of blankets at Kumbh Mela, 1998

In India each year, he has been running camps to feed thousands of Sadhus, pilgrims and the needy, and to distribute free clothing and medication. Each year Rambaba goes to India to organise and oversee foodcamps in the Kumbh Mela festivals which are held in 4 cities: Allahabad, Hardwar, Ujjain, Nasik. The Kumbh Mela circulates around these 4 cities and happens every 3 years. In between the Kumbh Mela festivals, the food camps are organised in Allahabad during the month of Magh in the Hindu calendar.

These food camps serve thousands of people everyday, the majority of whom are poor. The meals are served with the people seated in the traditional Indian way. There is no restriction on how much food anyone is served, everyone eats to their hearts content.

The latest food camp was organised in Allahabad during January, 2000. Each day, food was served to 8,000 people. The meals are made out of the freshest and best ingredients and consist of a full 'thali'. No one is turned away.
In addition, thousands of shirts, trousers, sweatshirts, woollen jumpers and blankets are distributed to the needy. An eye camp was set up where thousands of people are provided with free spectacles and medicines.
